Rome Research Development Grant

This grant focuses on Notre Dame Rome and aims to deepen institutional/research connections between ND Rome and partners in Italy by supporting the convening of strategic meetings in one of two ways:

OPTION 1
Faculty convening meetings to establish new and/or reinvigorate and/or deepen existing collaborations at Notre Dame Rome

Open to all disciplines and institutions in the locale with particular interest in:

  • The Vatican Library
  • La Sapienza
  • The Museum of the Forma Urbis

OPTION 2*
Faculty bringing collaborators from the locale of Notre Dame Rome to South Bend to deepen an existing collaboration with Notre Dame Rome and/or enhance collaborators overall understanding of the University

Open to all disciplines and institutions in the locale with particular interest in:

  • The Vatican Library
  • La Sapienza
  • The Museum of the Forma Urbis

*Cost Share required with an on-campus hosting unit for this option

Eligibility/Requirements

  • Full-time regular faculty members of Notre Dame are eligible to apply
  • Open to all disciplines

Funding

  • Funding requests can be made up to $10,000

Application Guidelines

Applications will be submitted through NDG's submissions manager and should include:

  1. Proposal title
  2. ND project director (PD) name(s), department/center/institute affiliation(s) and email address(es)
  3. Indication of which option is being applied for (Option 1 or Option 2)
  4. Indication of the specific person(s) being invited, including their disciplines(s) and institutional affiliation(s)
  5. Summary statement of why this grant is important in terms of establishing/furthering a research project or institutional relationship (600 word limit)
  6. Total amount requested in US dollars
  7. List of any other funding sources obtained, or being applied for, to support this initiative
  8. Proposed dates for an event at Notre Dame Rome or travel to South Bend
  9. Planned activities and their locations
  10. A timeline for completion of the travel/grant activities
  11. Information about ways in which the applicant plans to support the continued development of the project/relationship
  12. Budget with justification
  13. Current abbreviated CV (3-page limit) for the ND applicant.
  14. Current abbreviated CV (3-page limit) for the any international collaborators
  15. If Option 2:
    1. justification for travel
    2. a letter from the hosting unit indicating cost sharing

Criteria

Well defined outcomes must be anticipated such as clarification of ways in which the institutions may intersect, collaborate, or partner going forward

Eligible Expenses

  • Airfare, ground transportation, visa costs (if applicable), accommodation, and per diem as outlined below
  • Hospitality expenses at Notre Dame Rome

Per Diem: Reimbursement for meals and incidental travel expenses for travel in accordance with these per diem allowances:

  • 1-14 days - Up to 75% of US State Dept per diem for international travel
  • 15+ days – Up to 50% of US State Dept per diem for international travel
