This grant focuses on Notre Dame London and can provide travel support for research and institutional relationships in one of four ways:
OPTION 1* Planning meetings with UK/European research collaborators with the express aim of pursuing a joint grant proposal |
OPTION 2* Supporting an existing faculty-to-faculty collaboration in a way that promises a significant advance in establishing or deepening a joint research project |
OPTION 3 Grant to host a colloquium with UK university (with equal cost share from that institution) |
OPTION 4* Designing a collaborative project that clearly advances the University’s strategic framework |
*Travel can be in either direction in that the ND faculty could apply to support their international collaborators coming to South Bend |
Eligibility/Requirements
- Full-time regular faculty members of Notre Dame are eligible to apply
- Open to all disciplines
Funding
- Funding requests can be made up to $10,000
Application Guidelines
Applications will be submitted through NDG's submissions manager and should include:
- Proposal title
- ND project director (PD) name(s), department/center/institute affiliation(s) and email address(es)
- Indication of option being applied for (Option 1-4)
- Summary statement (option specific, 600 word limit):
- Option 1: Provide information on the UK/European researchers who will work on the proposal, what their institutions are, the ND PI’s history of engagement with them, the indicators suggesting that meetings might successfully result in a joint proposal which in turn may be successful in gaining joint funding. Indicate any joint funding mechanisms for which you are considering applying.
- Option 2: Summary of the research project and the UK PIs and institutions involved
- Option 3: Summary of the colloquium planned, the co-hosting UK university, list of participants and tentative schedule
- Option 4: Summary of the collaborative project and the UK PIs and institutions involved
- Total amount requested in US dollars
- List of any other funding sources obtained, or being applied for, to support this initiative/research/colloquium
- Proposed travel dates
- Justification for travel
- Planned activities and their locations
- A timeline for completion of the activities/travel
- Information about ways in which the applicant plans to support the continued development of the project/relationship
- Budget with justification
- Current abbreviated CV (3-page limit) for the ND project director(s)
- Current abbreviated CV (3-page limit) for the any international collaborators
- Letter from anticipated partner at international institution indicating their willingness to meet for the designated purpose (Option 3 must include a commitment to co-host and equal cost sharing)
London Research Development Grant SAMPLE Application
Criteria
Well defined outcome must be anticipated such as the writing of a grant proposal, development of a new joint project or a significant clarification of direction on an existing project, joint publication or hosting a joint colloquium with a UK co-host.
Eligible Expenses
- Cost share commitment, covering postdoctoral travel as part of a grant application
- Airfare, ground transportation, visa costs (if applicable), accommodation, and per diem as outlined below
- Hospitality expenses at Notre Dame London for convening the grant writing meetings, expenses related to hosting a colloquium
Per Diem: Reimbursement for meals and incidental travel expenses in accordance with these per diem allowances:
- 1-14 days - Up to 75% of US State Dept per diem for international travel
- 15+ days – Up to 50% of US State Dept per diem for international travel
