Fulbright Programs
The Institute of International Education consistently recognizes the University of Notre Dame as one of the U.S.'s leading Fulbright institutions.
The Fulbright Program awards approximately 9,000 merit-based scholarships in the United States and more than 160 countries every year to accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds and fields. Fulbrighters study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges.
The program is sponsored and administered by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and has opportunities for U.S. Scholars, Visiting Scholars, and U.S. Institutions.

Fulbright U.S. Scholars
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers over 400 awards in more than 130 countries to teach, conduct research, and carry out professional projects around the world. Participants must be U.S. citizens.
Fulbright Non-U.S. Scholars
There are several opportunities for international scholars to visit Notre Dame through the prestigious Fulbright program. The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to over 800 foreign scholars from over 155 countries to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions for a semester to a full academic year. The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides American colleges, universities, and research institutions with a valuable resource to support the internationalization of their campuses.

ND Departments Hosting a Fulbright Scholar
Notre Dame Global strongly encourages Notre Dame departments to host Fulbright Visiting Scholars. Hosting a scholar through the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program requires no actual financial outlay from Notre Dame beyond access to facilities and programs. All University constituents, whether they be administrators, faculty, or students, can benefit from the presence of Fulbright Visiting Scholars at Notre Dame. These individuals enrich ND’s intellectual and research endeavors, international connections, and global perspectives.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program (Uganda)
In partnership with the U.S. Mission in Kampala, this program aims to create and/or strengthen ties between the University of Notre Dame and academics and their higher education institutions in Uganda, as well as promote greater knowledge of Uganda in the United States. This award will fund 2 African university faculty, administrators, and research institute professionals to conduct postdoctoral research or curriculum development and research.
The scholarship offers the opportunity for faculty, administrators, and research institute professionals in the fields of Sustainability, resilience, mitigation, and adaptation; Peacebuilding, including peace processes, religion and peacebuilding, and the role of new technologies; Global health, including WASH, nutrition, and maternal health; and Language Curriculum Development to Foster Global Citizenship in Students.
