Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to foreign scholars to conduct postdoctoral research or teach at U.S. institutions for periods ranging from an academic semester to a full academic year.
To determine if your country participates in the program and the application deadline for your country, please contact your country’s Fulbright Commission or the public affairs section of the U.S. Embassy.
To participate in the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, the applicant must:
- be a citizen of a country participating in the Visiting Scholar Program. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are NOT eligible for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
- possess a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.
- have sufficient proficiency in the English language to engage in U.S. academia and to carry out the proposed project.
Other terms of eligibility may apply at the country level.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program (Uganda)
In partnership with the U.S. Mission in Kampala, the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award with the University of Notre Dame program aims to create and/or strengthen ties between the University of Notre Dame and academics and their higher education institutions in Uganda, as well as promote greater knowledge of Uganda in the United States. This award will fund 2 African university faculty, administrators, and research institute professionals to conduct postdoctoral research or curriculum development and research.
The scholarship offers the opportunity for faculty, administrators, and research institute professionals in the fields of Sustainability, resilience, mitigation, and adaptation; Peacebuilding, including peace processes, religion and peacebuilding, and the role of new technologies; Global health, including WASH, nutrition, and maternal health; and Language Curriculum Development to Foster Global Citizenship in Students.
