Eimear Clowry Delaney

Eimear Clowry Delaney was appointed as the Michael J. Smurfit Director in July 2024.

As director, Eimear is responsible for implementing the University’s vision and strategy in Ireland. With over 20 years of working in higher education across three continents, Eimear currently leads the Dublin team, building and deepening strategic relationships with Ireland's premier universities and institutions of culture, government, and industry through the development of innovative research collaborations, initiatives, and partnerships. She also serves on the Naughton Fellowship Committee.

Eimear previously served as Senior Associate Director of the Keough Naughton Notre Dame Centre, overseeing operations and programs. Before joining Notre Dame in 2008, she worked in academic and student affairs at University College Dublin and Massey University, New Zealand.

She graduated from Dublin City University with a BA in communication studies and an MA in nonprofit leadership. She holds a certificate in creativity and innovation in education from University College Dublin and is undertaking her doctorate in education at Dublin City University. Her current research interests include sustainable futures, place-based pedagogies, and global citizenship.

An avid photographer and lover of nature, she is passionate about engaging communities in conversation to better understand our shared responsibility to place. She is a member of a number of advisory groups and initiatives in areas of culture and heritage, urban nature conservation and youth education. She enjoys painting, cooking, and kayaking with her husband and two boys along the Boyne river in Meath and Lough Carra in Mayo.
