Carrie Anne Thomas

As the Associate Director of Global Education, Carrie Anne Thomas plays a key role in advancing the global education of both outbound study abroad students as well as inbound short-term international students. She has the overall responsibilities of designing, implementing, and assessing the strategies for developing study abroad students’ intercultural and global competencies. She also works with the GEP team on academic planning and delivery for inbound international students on intercultural communication, leadership skills and English language skills.

Carrie Anne earned her Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with a minor in Comparative Cultural Studies from The Ohio State University. She also holds an MA in Educational Leadership and Policy (Comparative Education) from Beijing Normal University as well as an MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition from the University of Oxford.

Carrie Anne holds an Indiana teaching license and has taught English language and literature to all age levels (kindergarten through college) in eight countries (Austria, China, Kosovo, Russia, Slovakia, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, and the United States) including a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.

Before coming to Notre Dame, Carrie Anne held a graduate research associate position in the Office of International Affairs at The Ohio State University and taught classes for the French and Italian Department and the Department of Teaching and Learning. Prior to that, Carrie Anne worked for the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) at Purdue University and taught international students through the Purdue Language and Cultural Exchange (PLaCE) Program.
