Alice Tyrell

Alice Tyrell first joined Notre Dame London in 1999, and now serves as both director of academic programs and the ND London librarian, managing both the ND London Library and the G.K. Chesterton collection, and supporting teaching and learning in a variety of ways across the many programs of Notre Dame London. As part of both roles, she coordinates and co-teaches the Kennedy Scholars seminar each semester.

Before joining Notre Dame, Alice worked for The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, the London Library, and the UK Friends of the New Alexandrian Library. She is a Chartered Librarian, and volunteers as a governor for an East-London Catholic girls’ school.

Tyrell is a committed Londoner and has an M.A. in British history from Birkbeck, University of London, focused on the history of London. She is particularly interested in issues of gender, class, and sexuality, and how that intersects with immigration and housing issues in London and beyond. She is very happy to answer questions about her city, as well as your studies and research.
