Notre Dame students visited the Emberá Qera indigenous community during the University's first-ever study abroad program in Panama. Internationally bestselling author Eoin Colfer discussed his work at Notre Dame Dublin's O'Connell House. Five students traveled to Durham as part of the Kennedy Scholars Seminar to present their semester-long research projects to university faculty. Father Dan Groody visited Notre Dame Santiago to announce the launch of his book, Una Teología de la Migración.

Fionn Barr, a rising Senior majoring in Political Science and History. Originally from Ireland, Fionn is currently an exchange student at Peking University and is interning this summer for Notre Dame Beijing.

BEIJING — Fionn Barr, a rising senior majoring in political science and history, and his father are pictured at the Simatai section of the Great Wall—a more traditional section that retains its original appearance from the Ming Dynasty. Originally from Ireland, Barr is an exchange student at Peking University who is interning for Notre Dame Beijing this summer. 

Eoin Colfer

DUBLIN — Eoin Colfer, Irish author of the internationally bestselling Artemis Fowl series and over forty children's fantasy, science fiction, and adventure books, joined Professor Declan Kiberd in conversation at Notre Dame Dublin's O'Connell House. The pair discussed Colfer's journey from teaching literacy in primary schools to promoting literacy as a full-time writer, and his newest collaborative projects with illustration artists, resulting in two award-winning graphic novels, with more to come.

ND Global GPE Students in Hong Kong 2024

HONG KONG —The Notre Dame Hong Kong Global Professional Experience kicked off this month. The first few days of the program included visits to several prominent companies to gain insight from leaders in various industries. Students also took part in immersive experiences at places like the Palace Museum and Hong Kong's vibrant West Kowloon Culture District.

KYLEMORE — Clíona Ní Ríordáin (Thomas J. and Kathleen M. O’Donnell Chair in Irish Language and Literature at Notre Dame) and Declan Kiberd (Donald and Marilyn Keough Professor of Irish Studies and Professor of English and Irish Language and Literature Emeritus at Notre Dame) brought together a group of academics, writers and lovers of poetry to commemorate Seamus Heaney on the 10th anniversary of his death. The participants gathered at Notre Dame Kylemore to discuss Heaney’s work and language, particularly in translation, and the event concluded with each participant reading their favorite Heaney poem.

Notre Dame London’s decade-long partnership with Durham University doesn’t stop with this spectacular academic opportunity; our Kennedy Scholars were also treated to a tour of Durham Cathedral and provided access to the exclusive collection at Ushaw College by Notre Dame and Durham faculty member James Kelly.

MEXICO — Notre Dame students visited the Emberá Qera indigenous community on the outskirts of the Darien region in Panama to learn about the community and their adapted sustainable development practices due to migrants crossing the Panamanian jungle. Here, our students travel by "piragua", the local name for a wooden canoe, on the Gatún River to get to the community. This program, called "Migration in Central America: Causes and Consequences," is a pilot program led by Notre Dame Mexico and the first-ever Notre Dame study abroad program in Panama.

MUMBAI — The Notre Dame India Summer students, accompanied by the Notre Dame Mumbai team, braved the heat, trekking through Sanjay Gandhi National Park to the 2400-year-old Kanheri Caves. The reward: stunning views from inside the highest cave. 

NDG Global’s Nairobi office welcoming our new Global Professional Experience (GPE) student!

NAIROBI — Faith Kipkulei, a sophomore Science-Business major with a minor in health, was welcomed by Dr. Jackie Aridi, director of Notre Dame Nairobi. As part of the Global Professional Experience, Kipkulei will be hosted for seven weeks by the Institute for Economic Affairs in Nairobi as an Adam Smith Scholar. 

Thirteen of our ND Rome students took part in an "Inclusive Fun Ride" riding alongside participants with disabilities from l’Arche organization.

ROME — Thirteen of our Notre Dame Rome students rode alongside participants with disabilities from L’Arche in Italy, an organization focused on "engaging in diverse cultures and working together toward a more human society."

Fr. Dan Groody visits ND Santiago

SANTIAGO — Fr. Dan Groody visited Notre Dame Santiago to announce the launch of his book, Una Teología de la Migración, in Spanish. Groody discussed the book and the topic of migration relative to the role of the Catholic Church and presented the book at Universidad Alberto Hurtado and UC Chile.

SÃO PAULO — Marcio Bahia, associate director of undergraduate studies and associate teaching professor of Portuguese, was joined by Global Professional Experience students Diego Meneses and Robert Bektas. Bahia will lead his "Brazil: A Social Mosaic" program this summer, focusing on various aspects of Brazilian culture including language, gender, race, and social inequality.
