The annual International Taste of South Bend event held on campus in November by Notre Dame International brought 16 local, ethnic restaurants to Stepan Center. Over 1,000 Notre Dame students and community members came to taste a variety of offerings including Mediterranean, Italian, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, Cajun, Jamaican, and Chinese food. Entertainment was provided by Notre Dame student groups.

“Our goal at NDI is to connect our international students to the local community, and connect our international community to our students. This event is a fantastic way for us to do that by exposing the rich variety of cuisines here in the Michiana area. We have amazing restaurants just outside the borders of campus—some within walking distance,” says Heather Christensen, organizer of the event. “Our local restaurants have been great partners in this effort and we look forward to expanding this event every year.”

Restaurants sign up and receive a moderate stipend to offset the cost of food, Christensen said. The event occurs on campus during International Education Week each November and is free to attendees.
