New website launched for Notre Dame Nairobi

Author: Jessie Carson

This week, the Notre Dame Nairobi website officially launched. The website will serve as a home for all information related to the University’s history, programs, events, and partnerships in Nairobi and throughout Africa.

Notre Dame’s history in Kenya began in 2009 with an initiative called The Universities Partnership for Research, Outreach, and Development (UPFORD) in Nnindye, Central Uganda. Then, in 2011, the Holy Cross Congregation and the University partnered with the Dandora community in the east side of Nairobi to conduct a comprehensive community engagement exercise. Since then, the University’s presence and impact in the region have expanded thanks to partnerships with a number of institutions—from renowned schools like Strathmore University to Catholic institutions like Brother Andre Hospital to NGOs like the Institute of Economic Affairs, among others

Dr. Jackline Oluoch-Aridi, who joined Notre Dame Global in 2021, leads efforts as the director of Notre Dame Nairobi. She works directly with local partners and also supports faculty in their research and students in their study abroad programs. Beyond this, she serves as an asset to other Notre Dame entities who are actively working in the region, such as the Keough School of Global Affairs, the Eck Institute for Global Health, and the Department of Economics.

This summer, Jackie was joined by Vice President & Associate Provost for Internationalization Michael Pippenger and Senior Assistant Provost for Internationalization Jonathan Noble for a listening tour across West and East Africa to better understand what institutions across these regions need out of a partnership with the University. These conversations will prove integral to the further formation and expansion of Notre Dame Nairobi’s programs and initiatives.

Explore the new website to discover more about the exciting programs and initiatives taking place in the region, and stay up to date on the latest announcements via News & Events.
