The University of Notre Dame du Lac (ND), USA and São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil are delighted to announce the ND-UNESP Travel Grant program. The goal of the program is to act as a catalyst for international research collaborations between ND and UNESP by funding faculty to explore, develop, or advance long-term research collaborations. Awards are to cover travel expenses for individual faculty at one institution to visit collaborators or potential collaborators at the other institution.
Eligibility
- Applicants at both UNESP and Notre Dame must be regular full-time faculty.
Funding
Funding requests can be made up to $5,000 and can be used to cover travel, visas, accommodation and meals.
Applicants may apply for both this ND-UNESP Travel Grant Program and for the ND-UNESP Seed Grant Program but may not receive an award in both.
Application Guidelines
To request funding from the IND-UNESP Travel Grant program, applications must be submitted in English to NDG’s submissions manager.
Proposals should be in keeping with the strategic plans of both institutions:

The application will require each application to include the following:
- A proposal with outcomes identified.
- A budget with justification.
- The name, departmental affiliation and email of the hosting collaborator at ND or UNESP.
- A current CV for both the ND and UNESP collaborators.
- PLEASE NOTE: Each investigator's CV must be submitted in the FAPEPS CV FORMAT.
- A letter from the host collaborator indicating their willingness to host, meet and collaborate on the project as proposed.

Criteria
- Well-defined outcome(s) must be anticipated, such as a joint project or a proposal in anticipation of future joint publications and/or joint funding.
- Applicants whose goals may not be realized without an in-person visit to the institution.
- Applicants who demonstrate impact of proposed activities and connection to long-term goals.
Ineligible Activities
- Conference attendance or travel with a goal of planning a conference
- Student travel
Timeframe
- Launch: November 1, 2025
- Deadline: January 31, 2026
- Selection Panel: February 2026
- Notifications expected: April 2026
- Projects start: Between 1 June 2026 - 1 July 2026
- Maximum length of award: 1 year (unused funds at the end of the award period will be returned to the granting institution)
Grantee Obligations
Recipients will submit an on-line report on the activities of the grant, and future plans for continued collaboration, within 30 days of completing travel.
