In 2022, the University of Notre Dame formed a Consortium of Catholic Universities (CCU) made up of 10 Catholic universities from across the globe. Inspired to build a scholarly community that addresses the most pressing needs of the world and Church, this consortium has a rotating research theme for a two year period. Through engaged dialogue, the Consortium is enhancing global education and opportunities for students and sharing institutional best practices regarding challenges and opportunities of higher education.
A cornerstone of the Consortium is a bi-annual conference that brings together administrators, faculty, staff, and students. This symposium launches the research theme by convening member universities to share their experiences, research, and best practices on an important aspect of university life.

Consortium Themes
2024-26 Theme
Catholic Universities: Standing in Solidarity with Partners and Peers in Conflict Zone
In 2023, it was announced that the 2nd theme for the Consortium would be “Catholic Universities: Standing in Solidarity with Partners and Peers in Conflict Zone.” Responding to global conflict has long been a part of international education and, as Catholic universities, we believe we can come together to think upon how to offer community and support for a world in need.
2022-23 Theme
The Catholic University, Environmental Justice, and Research for a Sustainable Future
The theme of the Consortium for 2022-23 was “The Catholic University, Environmental Justice, and Research for a Sustainable Future.” Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, the universities that comprise the CCU sought to build community and to collaborate in ways that deepened understanding of the world around us and promoted greater respect for the dignity of the human person and the integrity of all of creation.
